Lend
Me a Tenor
By Ken Ludwig
Produced in
cooperation with Samuel French, Inc.
October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14,
19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 2007
This
night in September of 1934 is the biggest in the history of the
Cleveland Grand Opera Company. World famous tenor Tito Morelli
is to perform Otello, his greatest role, at the gala season
opener. Saunders, the General Manager, hopes this will put
Cleveland on the operatic map. Morelli is late; when he finally
sweeps in it is too late to rehearse with the company. Through a
hilarious series of mishaps, Il Stupendo is given a double dose
of tranquilizers which mix with the booze he has consumed and he
passes out. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant
Max believe he is dead. What to do? Max is an aspiring singer
and Saunders persuades him to get into Morelli’s Otello costume
and try to fool the audience into thinking he’s Il Stupendo. Max
succeeds admirably, but Morelli comes to and gets into his other
costume. Now two Otellos are running around in costume and two
women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with
Il Stupendo! A sensation on Broadway and in London’s West End,
Lend Me a Tenor is guaranteed to leave the audience teary-eyed
with laughter.
“A jolly play” – NY Times.
“Non-stop laughter” – Variety. “Uproarious! Hysterical!” –
USA Today. “A rib-tickling comedy” – NY Post. “Screamingly
funny!” CBS Radio

A
Funny Thing Happened
On The Way To The Forum
Book by: Burt
Shevelove and Larry Gelbart Music and Lyrics by: Stephen
Sondheim Screenplay and Adaptation by: Adolph Green Based on the
plays of Plautus
April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26,
2008
"Tragedy
tomorrow, comedy tonight!" Broadway’s greatest farce is light,
fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals
ever written – the perfect escape from life’s troubles. "A Funny
Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" takes comedy back to its
roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000-year-old
comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy
of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in
which a crafty slave (Pseudolus) struggles to win the hand of a
beautiful but slow-witted courtesan (Philia) for his young
master (Hero), in exchange for freedom. With its unforgettable
zany characters, a hysterical, perfectly constructed book by
Larry Gelbart (of "MASH" and "City Of Angels" fame) and Burt
Shevelove, and witty Stephen Sondheim songs, "Forum" allows a
brilliant ensemble of comedic actors to shine.
"It's funny, true nonsense! A merry good time!" - Herald
Tribune.
"A good, clean, dirty show! Brings back belly laughs!" –Time.
