Woodstock Musical
Theatre Company
presents
the Nunsense
Christmas musical:
Nuncrackers
Woodstock Musical
Theatre Company (WMTC)
presents
Nuncrackers, the
Nunsense
Christmas musical
that is a delightful
kick-off to the
holiday season for
the entire family.
Nunsense is
directed by
Christine Kelecius
of
Lake-in-the-Hills.
Performances take
place at The
Woodstock Opera
House, 121 Van Buren
St., Woodstock.
Times and dates are:
8 p.m.
Thursday,
Nov. 30;
8 p.m.
Friday, Dec.
1;
2 and 8 p.m.
Saturday,
Dec. 2; and
1 and 6 p.m.
Sunday, Dec.
3.
“This is a
wonderful, fun and
energetic play,”
said director
Christine Kelecius.
“I can promise that
families will enjoy
some really good
belly laughs. Also
the cast is very
strong vocally.
Really, I feel they
were kissed by the
angels!”
This holiday
favorite tells the
story of a TV
special being taped
at holiday time in
the basement of
Mount Saint Helen’s
Convent. Hilarious
antics follow as the
cast and members of
the convent learn
the true meaning of
Christmas. Cast
members play off of
each other with
wacky “Nunsense-sense-of-humor”
throughout the
performance.
As
part of the TV
special, they plan
to put on an
original ballet
based on The
Nutcracker
starring Sister Mary
Leo as the Sugar
Plum Fairy. To their
dismay, Sister Leo
is injured by one of
the children’s
batons before she
can make her grand
entrance. Fuel is
added to the fire
when Sister Julia,
the cook, doesn’t
show up and Father
Virgil Manly Trott
is forced to
impersonate her. As
he demonstrates
Christmas cooking
instructions on
making a fruit cake,
he adds too much rum
and becomes
inebriated. The TV
special becomes
chaotically comical
with each dilemma
the characters
encounter.
Nuncrackers,
features the same
hilarious nuns from
Nunsense: the
lovable Reverend
Mother played by
Kathie Comella of
Woodstock; Sister
Mary Hubert played
by Betsy Stemple of
Marengo; the
streetwise Sister
Robert Ann played by
Melina Rey of
Harvard; Sister Mary
Paul (aka - Sister
Amnesia) played by
Aimee Morgan of
Crystal Lake; Sister
Mary Leo played by
Mary York of
Marengo; and Father
Virgil Manly Trott
played by Wally
Kedzior of Cary.
Also, five talented
children are part of
the cast: brother
and sister duo James
and Clara Sullivan,
Nora Brown, Clare
Dhom, and Michael
Morphew,
all of
Woodstock.
The music, written
by award-winning
composer Dan Goggin,
includes a variety
of vocal stylings
including country,
pop, and gospel as
well as some moving
ballads.
Nuncrackers is
the fourth show in
Goggin’s series of
Nunsense
musicals.
Characters sing out
the uproarious
lyrics of each song
including: “Twelve
Days Prior to
Christmas,” “All I
Want For Christmas,”
“We Three Kings of
Orient Are Us,”
“Santa's Little
Teapot,” “Christmas
Time is Nunsense
Time,” “The
Christmas Box,”
“Santa Ain't Comin'
to our House,” “A
Carnival Christmas,”
“Jesus was Born in
Brooklyn,” “It's
Better to Give,” and
more.
Nuncrackers also
incorporates
traditional
Christmas carols
throughout the
musical as an
underscoring and in
the overture, plus
some spoofs
including “Here We
Come-a-Waffle-ing”
and “The Holly and
the Ivory.”
“
This
musical is so alive
with comedy, carols
and ‘Secret Santa’
audience
participation,” said
Kelecius. “We invite
everyone to come for
the laughs and to
come for the holiday
fun.”
Tickets are $22 and
$24. This production
is not included
in the WTMC season
ticket package. Call
